The Board of Protectors

Six Horses Saved is an initiative, an ongoing story, the journey of a family of horses saved in the final hours from a terrible fate.  Our network of Six Horses Supporters extends across the country from Hollywood to Canada. They are with us in spirit.  We are all united to protect the Six  - and all horses at risk of slaughter.

The Board of Protectors     The Board of Protectors is the core group of individuals who have come together for the sole purpose of protecting the Six Horses. We work to ensure the safekeeping of the Six. Since rescuing the Family, Six Horses Saved has evolved from a concerned group of volunteers and horsefolk into a retirement foster farm and ongoing management group for the Six Saved.

Six Horses Saved is under the management of Director Carole-Terese Naser (Palermo, Maine).  Our advisory panel consists of three professional consultants and our Director:

Carole-Terese Naser, Director, Six Horses Saved, Maine.     Ms. Naser is a behaviorist by training.  Her docotoral work centered around human adaptation in extreme environments and involved an international Arctic expedition.  She holds an MBA and worked in non-profit development in Boston for many years.  She has a lifetime of involvement with horses and horsemanship as a former Pony Clubber, under apprencticeship to the late Charlotte Read, founding member of the American Connemara Society, and with dressage training under the late Dr. van Schaik. She maintains Adagio Farm, where the Six Saved reside. Ms. Naser cares for and trains the horses herself, with pleasure.  Email: caroleterese@fairpoint.net

Dr. Donald Liechty, equine racetrack practitioner, Illinois.  Dr. Liechty has spent a lifetime caring for horses and is a topnotch equine practioner at both Arlington and Hawthorne racetracks in Illinois. We have been working closely with Dr. Liechty in his advisory capacity on all aspects of veterinary care since the herd rescue.  His role as advisor has been critical in helping us through numerous health challenges for the horses, along with wellness practice advice.

Diana Baker, equine rescue expert, Virginia.  Ms. Baker is a nationally known rescuer of horses at risk of slaughter and works with a national network.   Formerly with the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation, she has worked closely with us from the start.  She supports us via essential networking, outreach and public relations efforts.  Ms. Baker also adds considerable knowledge regarding general herd management aspects of the Six.

Christina Perkins, Attorney at Law, Maine.   Attorney Perkins is a Maine attorney with a general practice that includes real estate and animal advocacy.   A member of the Maine Animal Welfare Advisory Council in addition to other positions held in animal welfare agencies, she is our legal counsel and a source of information and networking. She is also a family friend of the horses.
